November 13th
Sones de Mexico

Join Midland Center for the Arts for a night of traditional Mexican folk music with the Grammy Award-nominated ensemble, Sones de Mexico. The ensemble is rooted in Mexican ‘son’ music and plays all-original arrangements: traditional and experimental, true-to-tradition ‘huapangos’ (folk style from northeastern Mexico), and son ‘jarocho’ (Veracruz style), to new hybrids of rock, classical and folk – all performed with contagious energy and resonant elegance. Playing over 30 acoustic instruments from different regions of Mexico and traversing lush vocal harmonies, this adventuresome sextet becomes a small orchestra that explores Mexican folk music and its relevance in the 21st Century.
