Midweek Matinee: Ric Mixter's Second Saturday Reruns

May 1: "Famous Shipwrecks in History" (2021)
Join us in the Robert & Ann Hachtel Theater at the Museum for the reshowing of the Ric Mixter's Second Saturday Reruns: "Famous Shipwrecks in History" (presentation occurred April 2021)
Ric will explore “truth from myth” of famous wrecks from Noah's Ark to the Titanic and will provide insight into what makes a ship noteworthy. He'll share the oldest wrecks discovered as well as those with the most treasure and include infamous losses on the Great Lakes.

May 8: "Lake Erie Stories" (2017)
Lake Erie's collection of shipwrecks ranges from the massive James Reed to the small schooners that are slowly sinking into the soft bottom of the Great Lake's smallest member.
Join Ric as he shows you what remains of the James Reed and hear an exclusive interview with a man who survived the collision in the middle of the lake. He will also feature one of the most terrifying storms to hit the lake, on Black Friday of 1916. Four ships were lost and two captains were the only survivors of their ships.
Ric will share underwater video of the Merida, Colgate and Butters as well, and will showcase some of the wrecks off Point Pelee. This passage has an impressive collection of ships including the Michigan-built George Stone and Conemaugh. Ric's latest project is to record the remains of the tug Admiral, lost with its barge Cleveco in a storm in 1942.

May 15: "A Summer of Shipwrecks: Searching For Bay County's Past On Lake Superior" (2021)
Join Ric Mixter as he shares information gathered in Summer 2021, as he investigated shipwrecks from Bay County. His findings include a new photo that pinpointed the location of the "City of Bangor." He was also part of the crew that discovered nearly a dozen wrecks off Grand Marais, Minnesota.

May 22: "Tattletale Sounds: The Edmund Fitzgerald Investigations" (January 2023)
Thought you knew everything about the Edmund Fitzgerald? Go behind the scenes to learn more about the most famous shipwreck investigation in Great Lakes history. Ric Mixter opens his archive of conversations with the men who built, sailed and dove the Fitzgerald, complete with the controversies and many unreleased photographs.

May 29: "The Final Voyage of the Edward E. Skeele" (presented in January 2019)
Join award-winning videographer Ric Mixter as he searches Lake Huron for the lost schooner Edward E. Skeele, which was chronicled in photographs during its last voyage for cedar posts near Manitoulin Island. The loss of the ship is one of the few to have such a detailed record of its sinking, and the location of the remains seemed like it would be easy. Ric has used the internet to chase down clues, and also found that the wreck's captain has a tie to another wreck near Alpena.
