Bay City State Recreation Area, situated on the shores of the Saginaw Bay, is home to one of the largest remaining freshwater, coastal wetlands on the Great Lakes, the Tobico Marsh. With over 2000 acres of wetland woods, wet meadows, cattail marshlands and oak savannah prairies, Tobico Marsh is an ideal staging area for migratory birds. The park is known for its bird life and as a haven for wetland wildlife and plants. Bay City-Tobico Marsh Trail: 3.3 miles There are two 4-story observations along this trail that overlook the Tobico Marsh. The entire trail system is part of the greater 17.5 mile Bay County Riverwalk/Railtrail. Bay City-Tobico Lagoon Trail: 1 mile This trail is the access route to the swimming beach on the Saginaw Bay. The entire trail system is part of the greater 17.5 mile Bay County Riverwalk/Railtrail.
