The refuge’s auto tour route, the Wildlife Drive, is open from June 1st - September 30th, from sunrise to sunset. Please note that the route may be closed due to flooding, soft roads, or other special conditions such as events or wildlife needs, like nesting bald eagles. The Wildlife Drive meanders past forests, grasslands, marshes, open water pools, and the Shiawassee River. Visitors will have opportunities to see a great diversity of wildlife. The drive is 6.5 miles in length and is a flat dirt or gravel roadway. Download a Wildlife Drive Map and Information Sheet online. Wildlife Drive Hours are: JUNE: Gate opens 6:00 am - Gate closes 8:15 pm - must exit by: 9:15 pm. JULY: Gate opens 6:15 am - Gate closes 8:10 pm - must exit by 9:10 pm. AUG: Gate opens 6:45 am - Gate closes 7:35 pm - must exit by 8:35 pm. SEPT: Gate opens 7:15 am - Gate closes 6:45 pm - must exit by 7:45 pm.

Beautiful area. Marshy land with some nice trails. Would have liked to hike more but 1) I was being eaten alive by the skeeters (don't forget the bug spray)...
